Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters
I had never set out to be involved in the music business, but instead readily used live music events to be my saving grace. Early in my life I loved listening to music. As a child of the 1960's Rock N Roll held my fascination. As soon as i turned 18 (1977) and was able to get into bars I soon fell in love with Blues and R&B. But I was working full time, and not in the least bit thinking I'd someday have a roll in making music happen.
I remember when I first connected with Ronnie Earl, it was in November of 1989. The band was seated outside of Scullers Jazz Club in Boston, having finished the show and the post show autograph signings. I had a few images of mine that I had asked them to sign, and as I departed Ronnie asked me for a copy of them. He gave me his address and a few days later I sent them off. Some time after that he called. The rest as they say, is history. Our friendship continued to develop, and I consider Ronnie to be as close as a brother to me. I remain amazed by his compassion for humankind as a whole, and by the kindness he shows everybody he comes in contact with, whether or not they're familiar to him.
He called in 2007 to ask if I'd be interested in bringing his amps to the show. Soon thereafter he labeled me as the band's road manager ("Because we don't go on the road!"). My time as road manager began in 2008 and finished in 2016. I'm considered by the band to be a lifetime member. If ever you heard Ronnie refer to the band as a family then you'll understand. We're still 'connected'.
