What’s the difference between a lawnmower and an Electric Guitar?
You can tune a lawnmower.
Who is the best guitar restorer in Eastern Massachusetts? My friend Jimmy. I met Jimmy for the first time when I started with the band in 2006. He was my go-to guy on the first night of my involvement and stayed that way until I wrapped things up at the end of 2014. Without Jimmy watching over me I never would have survived in a job that had no job description whatsoever, no example to follow and no way of anticipating what was expected of me. So I credit Jimmy with that. Or blame him, the jury is out on that one.
There's a lot you don't know about Jimmy, like that he knows a lot of people who make the headlines. But he never brings up their names in conversation. And he builds custom guitars and built one for Chris Squire of the band Yes. And Chris was his close friend. Once when I was in Jimmy's shop in Winchester a Fed Ex carrier came in with a guitar case from a big shot who lives in NYC. He sent the guitar up to be fixed by Jimmy and then when it was done the Fed Ex guy had to come back and ship it back to NYC. Yeah, he carriers that type of reputation, and yet remains humble.
Jimmy is one of my best friends and while I have many reasons to be grateful for my time with Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters, my friendship with Jimmy ranks at the top of the list.
Sadly, Jimmy passed after a gig in Old Saybrook CT. We had remained close friends right up until his final day, in fact we had breakfast together, as had been our Saturday morning ritual from our days on the road. There are so many things about my daily life that remind me of him and not a day goes by that he doesn't pop into my thought for one reason or another. If there's a \Heaven then he's there....
