Wendell Holmes
The Holmes Brothers — Wendell on guitar and Sherman on bass, along with drummer Willie “Popsy” Dixon — played gospel, soul and blues music that grew from their lives in Christchurch. They played together for almost 40 years but did not get a recording contract until 1989.
The Holmes Brothers were a critically acclaimed act, hailed as “a timeless original” by Entertainment Weekly, and they made recordings with artists such as Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, Peter Gabriel and Joan Osborne. Introducing them in concert, Nelson once praised them as “truthful and irresistible.”
