Been There and Back
Troy has worked alongside members of Muddy Waters’ fabled band before he was out of his teens. He’s the guitar slinger behind two Grammy-nominated albums by blues superstar Kim Wilson. Troy is one of a select few who has filled the legendary guitar chair in The Fabulous Thunderbirds. And he's toured the globe with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Booker T as part of a guitar duo with Marc Ford.
But the end result of all these rich experiences is a brilliant musician who is first and foremost his own man. “Click Click Spark” shows the influence of every minute of Troy Gonyea’s remarkable musical journey, but it’s not blues, it’s not rock and roll, it’s not “roots music.” It’s all of those things—because it’s Troy Gonyea music.
“Click Click Spark” totally delivers when it comes to the hallmarks of the Troy Gonyea sound: vibrant original tunes coupled with resurrected gems, never-less-than-passionate vocals, and a monstrously big guitar sound. You would expect that Troy’s experience working in support of hall-of-fame-stature legends would make him a skilled bandleader, and you would be right. Troy has recruited three phenomenally skilled and sympathetic pros to help him deliver on his sonic vision: Brooks Milgate on piano and organ, Roomful of Blues alumnus Marty Ballou on bass, and drummer Marty Richards, who has worked with the likes of the J Geils Band, Joe Perry, and Dizzy Gillespie.
“Click Click Spark”— Troy’s brilliant guitar work and searing voice backed by his own savagely great band, captured live in a small club—is just the latest triumph from a world-class player whose music is taking him to some sonically stunning places. Let him take you there.
